Improved Mood at L.A. Majors Market, California Apparel News, Author: Andrew Asch
L.A. Majors Market is a place where buyer from large retailers come together to purchase merchandise for their categories but also see a fashion show out on from Directive's West to see what the latest trends are. With the economy still in recession, retailers, showroom owners, and apparel line saw an improved mood at market from last year. Buyers are more confident in what they want to stock for their locations and not asking labels to see what is going to move. Buyers are taking the risk once again in fashion for the novel item. Adam Moon, fashion director for juniors at Macy's talked about fall juniors trends that he is seeing, from short shorts to clothes that need to be layered. Military silhouettes are also appearing in the stored as well as new skinny silhouettes. Lastly, the european fur vest will be introduced as well.
For me as a buyer, it is reassuring to know that the economy is getting better as buyers are taking the risk of purchasing items for their stores. No one is asking, "what if it doesn't sell" or "how can we move it."I don't go to major market but I do go to markets as well as MAGIC and PROJECT and the past few time I have been it seem slow for me. Business has ben tough but with the introduction of new items and taking that risk, we will definitely get consumers interested in buying product. It is also nice to see that trends are coming back into play with the fur vest and layering clothes. Trends is what drives the consumer to purchase and fit in and once that is over, they move on to the next.
