Zac Posen's on Target by Raakhee Mirchandani
With fashion catering to the rich and the not so rich, high fashion designers are now wanted to expand their demographic. It all started with Isaac Mizrahi for Target, Vera Wang for Kohl's and now Zac Posen for Target, people who are interested in fashion but cannot afford the big ticket prices, will now be able to get Zac Posen for under $100. In the article Zac Posen states that he doesn't like the work "mass" because he associates that with animals, he likes to think of it as a larger demographic. The merchandise offerings include a tuxedo jacket for $50 and pants for $40. Zac Posen wants to cater to more women and expand his demographic base. Co-branding is something designers who are established and want to expand their consume base will do to not only have more followers and brand equity but also generate more sales on top of their couture pieces.
I feel that it is great the designers are able to branch out and co-brand with retailers like Target to be able to cater and expand their consumer base. With high fashion being expensive and consumers wanted but can’t afford, co-branding with retailers like Target, designers are able to have the same design concept silhouettes and offer them at a cheaper price for the consumer.
